Cheers to you, Mom!
One thing that makes me like the UK is the presence of nature wherever you go. Most homes have a garden, actually 2 gardens – front and rear. At the back of our home is a long stretch of forest with trees of various sizes, shapes, and species. Every time we go to church we pass through it. At times we meet people with a toddler or pet dog in tow. During the previous months, the forest seemed like a desert; all the trees have shed their leaves and went into hibernation.
But now that spring has arrived, you could see them all showing signs of new life. Some of them have flowers - white or pink - for the eyes’ delight. Still others began to have red-like leaves now metamorphosed into green. Certain birds too that were gone before have returned to build their nests or find food in the soil. There are, however, some main-stays like squirrels, pigeons, sparrows, and magpies.
If the biting temperature of winter has prevented us from staying out into the garden, spring and the forthcoming summer would definitely keep us busy tending plants and bathe in the sunshine. At the moment, our garden showcases tulips of various hues: red, yellow, pink, and violet. And there at the middle of the lawn you can find the cherry tree which was planted last year. My wife loves to plant. I do my bit by making compost from kitchen and garden wastes like fruit and vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, etc. This compost is used to help plants absorb more water and become healthier. I am really pleased every time I sit in the garden and observe our plants in full bloom.
During my first visit to Romblon early this year, I was happy to see such an enormous amount of virgin forests, rivers, fields, and that renowned Mount Guiting-guiting. I do look forward to come back there soon!
As for the metropolis, in spite of the grime and pollution, there are still places where nature is preserved and promoted. You have Luneta Park, Quezon Memorial, Wildlife, etc all tending different kinds of plants that beautify the surrounding and assist in the very life of every creature. Why don’t you try to take a stroll in these places?
May is the season when we enjoy the earth’s bounty, which is the reason why most fiestas are held this month. It’s also an occasion we give flowers to our biological mothers and to Mary, our Mother in the Christian faith. As we celebrate these occasions, let us also pay tribute to nature by taking good care of her and teaching others to do the same. We may not be able to plant trees or construct a garden in our very homes. Being conscious of proper waste management may do for now. Then we can join forces with like-minded folks in promoting “Clean and Green”, “Car Share”, Recycling, and other similar programmes.
Nature too is our mother who tirelessly teaches us how gracious our God is and how He expects us to tend His creation.

Last week, we started promoting Wednesday as St Joseph’s Day. Wherever you are, whatever time it may be convenient for you, make it a point to pray to our dear patron in this particular day. As we turn to him let us remember all our intentions, especially those posted in our announcement board.

Also, if you wish to make testimonies of miracles obtained through St Joseph, please do not hesitate to contact us. It’s high time we proclaim on the rooftops the Lord’s greatness through our beloved saint.

A small favor - can you sing this song for me? For the time being, musical muna ang tagay natin ngayon. Ok?

My Way
(Please press the play button to start.)
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!
