Regaining Flavour

By Pietro BS Albano

"But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it. " (Matthew 5:13; TEV - Second edition © 1992)

When I made a visit to the Philippines last month, I was shocked at the sight of shanties that have inundated the already populous metropolis. Further more, the growing number of unemployed people who could hardly put their body and soul together. I felt really sorry for our countrymen who have been jobless and therefore penniless for quite a time. They have been at the low point of their lives, like salt that has lost its flavour. Indeed, they become prey to people who would look down at them or worse, give them false hope like what most dirty politicians do to their poor and hapless constituents.

February 6 is marked to remember the unemployed. Let's help them re-discover the 'salt' in them and share what we have --- introduce them to a friend who may be looking for a worker, give them counsel, pray for them and with them, etc --- so they may rise up from where they have fallen.
